Electronics can be recycled
Household electronics can be recycled in a benefit for Bean's Cafe in Anchorage through today, according to Green Star, a local group that encourages recycling.
Total Reclaim Inc. will take electronics and donations to Bean's until 5 p.m. at its warehouse at 12101 Industry Way, Unit CF, in the Huffman Business Park, Green Star said. Recyclers will be asked to make a donation to Bean's instead of the usual payment to Total Reclaim.
Information on the effort and donation suggestions can be found at www.green star.org.
In general, Bean's prefers to receive items instead of cash, such as toilet tissue, coffee, large cans of food or hams for the holiday season.
Providence opens cancer center
Providence Alaska Medical Center plans to officially open its new cancer center on Monday, the hospital said. The 45,000-square-foot center at 3851 Piper St. will occupy three floors of a new four-story office building behind the main hospital in Anchorage.
The center will integrate and expand Providence's services, with medical offices, radiation oncology, oncology research and clinical trials, oncology rehabilitation, a tumor registry, an infusion center, a pharmacy, lab and pathology services and "telehealth" capabilities, Providence said. Several years ago, Providence targeted improved services for heart and cancer patients, and as of Monday will have opened up office-building centers aimed at both.
